For Daddy-

Today is my dad’s birthday.

He would be 74 this year, but cancer chose to take him away almost 12 years ago now. Still, I can’t help but think of him today as I crawl into my writing hole.

Miss you daddy

Don’t know how long he’ll be gone this time
Fear I won’t see him soon
Navy slacks pressed razor sharp
Shoes polished black
Airplanes soar overhead
He identifies them by sound
His fingers – rough and strong
But hard to hold on
Six eyes watch from the driveway
Soldiers don’t cry
Heels tap the concrete
Echo in my head
Until he’s gone
Airplanes soar overhead
I identify them by sound
We’ll fly together someday

Later, gator ❤

My girl, I have always told you words have power and you my little lulu have the gift and you are brave enough to share those words. This tribute to your dad us beautiful, meaningful and so poignant. My eyes are blurred with tears and my heart bursting with memories. Your sister has succumbed to your words and is sobbing with me. Your, dad wherever he is weeps but smiles with pride. ❤
